As a Christian liberal arts high school, our goal is to produce graduates who:
The school distinctives that help us accomplish these goals include:
Specific information on book lists, credit hours, college admission, and senior projects can be found in the high school handbook below:
- Recognize that all people bear the Image of God and should, therefore, be valued, respected and loved,
- Recognize the importance of right relationships with God, self, family, friends, the local community, our country, and the world,
- Are well-read across a wide body of subjects in a way that they can see the interconnectedness,
- Develop intimate relationship with and personal ownership of the topics of study rather than collecting a store of meaningless factoids,
- Read or listen attentively and with deference, critically analyze and weigh the ideas presented, and then develop informed opinions and express them in respectful ways,
- Live healthy and balanced lives,
- Have a sense of the pervading ideas of humanity through time (philosophy) in order to give context to religion, history, science, the arts, and culture, and
- Have a sense of magnanimity—large-mindedness and service to others.
The school distinctives that help us accomplish these goals include:
- More integrated study that allows students to live with a wider range of topics for a longer period of time,
- No grades, GPAs, or class rank, as these distract students from knowledge for its own sake,
- “Living” books, as opposed to textbooks, which make subject matter more interesting and engaging,
- Emphasis on health, physical activity, the outdoors, and manual work in addition to intellectual activity,
- Limited standardized testing, since standardization of persons is neither possible nor desirable, and
- A model of discipline that is relational, rather than behavioristic, to keep the focus on personal and authentic development of character.
